DANCE!

It's Always Fair Weather

De quoi être encore un peu plus de bonne humeur... ;)

After what he himself calls his trilogy (1997: "The Theorem of the delirium", 2000: "Requiem for A Dream" and 2006: "L 'tree of the life" The Fountain), the American producer Darren Aronofsky, 39 years, returns at Venice with his new film, The Wrestler. Protagonist Mickey Rourke, whose passion for boxing and eccentric talent, represents for Aronofsky the perfect combination for the role of the protagonist. It is the story of former champion of wrestling Randy Robinson that to maintain, steers a middle course himself at toil showing himself in small meetings in gymnasiums and schools of New Jersey. Randy has a daughter that he does not see ever (Evan Rachel Wood) and a story of love with an aging stripper (Marisa Tomei), when a heart attack compels him to regain his life thru discussion and to challenge in a last match, his ancient antagonist. After Venice, The Wrestler will go to the festival of Toronto and New York before going out in the Usa (and to follow in the world) in autumn. Aronofsky speaks via telephone from New York, where living with his companion, actress Rachel Weisz, and their two-year-old son, Henry. "I wanted to experience something again and something never seen, first", he says. Why did he choose actual wrestling? "Because the cinema, it produced a vein on boxing, while no one ever realized a serious film on the wrestling profession, that it is a phenomenon just like boxing. It is a sport that was, for a long time thought "pretended" and that instead has an incredible authenticity". What has he uncovered exploring the universe of wrestling? "That even if the results of the matches really are established in departure, the sport asks for enormous athletic efforts. They are people that work days to weeks and do incredible acrobatics to amuse the public. It then is a sport that becomes always more binding and violent: introducing martial arts and the athletes risk a lot physically. It is a small charming world that the film goers will be pleased to discover". Why did he want Mickey Rourke? "ALL of THE cast learns from him. From a child I was a fan of his, I remember films like "Nine and a ½ Weeks" and 'Year Of The Dragon ". This film began to take form in my mind when I thought about him: it would not have been easy to find an actor in a position to play a wrestler in as much of a convincing manner. Mickey is a born wrestler, a true hard part. He was immediately interested in the role of Randy by means of the physical challenge that it asked for, and he put on 15 kilos of muscle learning the art of wrestling. The boxing that he knew is completely different: not at random, boxers do not have much respect for wrestlers, for them alone the boxing is the true struggle. But little by little Mickey s' fascinated, until the point to claim his turn in every individual fight in the film, not an easy enterprise for a 50-year-old". Also, is Rourke capable as an actor? "He is a teacher of the performance! Mickey has an incredible talent: one the industry of cinema forgot. And he always does different things". Why, to his warning, did Rourke leave a career that would have been able to be phenomenal? "He did not know how to support the weight of success. Talent means also to know how to manage it. Very young actors have been destroyed: at least Mickey is not dead. And now I hope that the people remember his force and he prays to god for a second opportunity". Is it satisfying to return to Venice? "We are enchanted with Venice: Rachel and I actually met on the show at the time of
"The Constant Gardner", before love was to be seen. Then from there we returned together with "L 'tree of the life ...The Fountain". Our son was conceived in Venice, and now there we restore it, three years after. I can imagine how much they are happy to return to us.
